Welcome to the Columbus, IN CoderDojo @ Bartholomew County Public Library!
What is CoderDojo?
We are a club providing kids the opportunity to explore, learn, and create using computer programming. By working with peers and mentors to complete self-guided projects, participants (called ninjas!) learn the basics of computer programming and develop their both their coding and independent problem-solving skills.
Explore: CoderDojo is a club, not a class. Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace, and pursue projects and topics that interest them.
Learn: Although CoderDojo has no set curriculum, participants will learn to code as they work with peers and mentors to complete projects of their choosing. (New to computer programming? Don’t worry - we do provide some structure in the form of guided projects to help get our ninjas get started)!
Create: As they develop their coding skills, participants will make games, animations, web pages, and more! They’ll also build relationships as they work with friends and mentors.
What do I / my child need to participate?
Nothing! However, if you have and can bring your own device (laptop or tablet), we highly encourage you to do so. The library has a limited number of devices available, so the more people who bring their own devices, the more ninjas who can participate!
Please note that parents are required to attend with ninjas aged 12 and under.
How do I sign up?
To participate in a CoderDojo session, please register using the library Events calendar. Please be aware that the library has a limited number of devices available and limited staff, so registration is first-come, first-served.
What if the session I want to attend is full?
Join the waitlist - you’ll be notified if someone else cancels and cannot attend. Note that if you are able to bring your own device AND a parent, we will almost certainly allow you to stay and participate, even if the session is technically full (although we still ask that you register and add yourself to the waitlist so we know how many potential ninjas to expect)!
How can parents participate?
Parents are required to attend sessions with participants aged 12 and under, and are more than welcome to work with their children, assist other ninjas, or just hang out and chat with one another.
When does Columbus CoderDojo meet?
We host regular sessions on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 4:30-6pm in the lower level reception area of the main library.
