General Dojo Information:
At CoderDojo Dundalk, we aim to encourage computing from a young age. Not only that, we want to help them be great at it! Computing is a hot area for employment here in Ireland and we believe that it's here to stay. We want to get young people aged 7 and up involved, primary and secondary school students alike.
Absolutely no programming experience is required, so if you are interested in checking out computing, come along to a session and try it out!
Like all Dojos we try to make it relaxed, fun, cool and interesting. There are no lectures or classroom approaches involved. Instead it's 100% hands-on coding with volunteer mentors available to help, to pass on their knowledge and of course, to keep you challenged!
Time: Specified Saturdays from 12pm-3pm. See Eventbrite booking link below for further details. Booking is essential!
What you need to bring:
- A packed lunch.
- A parent! (Very important). If you are 12 or under, your parent must stay with you during the session.
Topics: We currently cover HTML, CSS (website design & development), Scratch (an introductory programming language developed in MIT), Python, Java (using the Greenfoot development environment), 3D modelling (using Blender) and robotics through Lego Mindstorms (seasonal). As the Dojo develops, we intend to cover a variety of other topics, including Databases, PHP and Mobile Applications.

Only those attending the Dojo need a ticket - if you're a parent / guardian supervising your child, you don't need to book a ticket for you, only for your child.
Book a ticket for the Dojo room you want to attend most, (one ticket per child please, there is time after the break to visit the other rooms to see what’s going on if you like).
If you want to bring a laptop feel free to do so, if you don't, don't worry as we have computers available.
If you don't have a laptop, be sure to bring a USB key so you can take your code, notes and other information home with you
Some of the online apps need registration so the use of an email address may be required – this can be the parent / guardians email.so
Tickets to CoderDojo Dundalk are FREE, but if you would like to make a donation on the day there will be a collection tin in the main room, all money collected will go back into lunch, supplies etc. for the kids attending. The money will not be used to pay for organisers and mentors - these are volunteers and give of their time freely.
We can't take anyone under 7 years old - sorry!
Those under 12 must be accompanied by a parent / guardian for the entire duration of the class.
Bring along a packed lunch and a drink, as there are no shops in the immediate vicinity. We normally provide Pizza if we have the funds !!
Car parking on the DkIT campus is free at the weekends, and there are plenty of spaces directly in front of the Carroll's Building (the big brown glass building).
If for some unforeseen circumstance you are unable to attend PLEASE cancel your ticket(s) as soon as possible as there is normally high demand for ticket.
This event is run by volunteers and as such please be nice, patient and if you can help with sponsorship, laptops, mentoring or any other aspect please don't hesitate to contact us!
If your child suffers from an allergy or special need(s) please let one of the mentors know.
