Hello from Spanish Fort CoderDojo!
Free, volunteer-led program that helps kids aged 7-17 to learn how to code. From its inception in 2013, CoderDojo foundation evolved into a global movement. There are more than 250 groups in the US. Volunteers from the University of South Alabama teaming up with the Spanish Fort Public Library is starting the first CoderDojo in the state of Alabama.
At this Dojo, volunteer educators will guide the kids to learn computer coding skills (creating animations, music, and electronic gadgets), and soft skills (teamwork, problem-solving, analytical thinking, and creativity).

We have created an Amazon Wishlist (http://a.co/eRyqDAz) of the items needed for this Dojo. Any items bought on this list will be shipped directly to the Spanish Fort Public library. Thank you in advance for your contributions!
Key components:

Raspberry Pi
- A pocket-sized ($35) computer that does way cooler things than a typical laptop

- An open-source software that uses “Lego Blocks” to write a program

- An open-source software that bridges coding with music

Specific activities for hands-on introduction to Raspberry Pi, Linux, Scratch, Sonic-Pi, and Python:
- Create and play a geeky version of the Pacman game
- Become a code detective
- Build a flashing robot antenna
- Create a jelly baby that burps when it is squeezed
- Create a temperature alarm system
- Fire / smoke / fart detector
- Create traffic lights
- Create a drum loop
- A music box
- Create an animation that simulates the effect of gravity
- Create and play digital rock-paper-scissor game
- Create an archery game and test how well can you hit bullseye
- Make a ghost-catching game
- Make your own paint program
- Write a code that can create a variety of stories
- Create a mechanical dial gauge for temperature or light intensity
- Many more beginner, intermediate and advanced projects
